Fall is now upon us, many are excited about Pumpkin Latte’s but for those of us who LOVE TO GARDEN, it’s NOW time to plant your Fabulous Fall Containers!
Get Inspired!
What’s not to love about container gardening? You get to create a mini garden in your favorite container. These little gardens brighten up your patio, porch, or yard. Spring and Summer allow your containers to Grow into themselves. Fall containers allow us to fill those containers full to the brim, due to the short days, and short time allotted for Fall displays. Don’t let that deter you from planting these pots!
First thing to remember is COLOR! Make your container as colorful as you can.
Think “Fall Bounty” fill your flower pots full of a fall harvest. Think of a cornucopia, fill your container full of different plants.
Pack things tightly – There won’t be time for plants to grow in, so pack the pots, or window boxes full to create an instant impact. This is where perennials like heuchera, asters, anemone, and sedum can make a one-two punch. Plant them in your container and when you are ready for your wintergreens, plant the perennials in your garden!
Choose interesting containers – Invest in flower pots that you love, or look around to see what else you can turn into the perfect container for your garden. Be creative, keep in mind this is a great time to consider brightly colored containers. Since neutrals are big in the fall, they can go drab in a neutral container!
Remember the rules of thrillers, fillers and spillers. Thrillers grab your eye, fillers give color, and spillers fall off the pot.
Lastly, add fun Harvest elements. Think gourds, mini pumpkins, Indian corn, and grapevines all of these add much interest and depth.
